Jimbers’ Log: The Strange Tale of Twitch in the Coalmine

About a week ago Twitch burst into my cabin (utterly destroying a very delicate experiment in progress) wild eyed and raving (more so than usual). He said he was deep down in the hold of the ship (looking for rum no doubt) when he stumbled across a coalmine. On a ship. I looked at him incredulously (more so than usual) and started to explain how that was entirely impossible. He held up a hand and shook his head slowly, saying that he intended to plumb the depths of the mine and retrieve the treasure that was obviously hidden in it (obviously). He turned and we didn’t see him for a few days, which was not all that unusual. I asked a few crew members to search the hold and see if they could find Twitch, most likely curled up with an empty bottle in his arms. They returned with a wild tale about the mouth of a cave in the side of the ship. I stared at them with mouth agape. We went down and they showed me the mine entrance. I took a few tentative steps into it and called out Twitch’s name. It echoed back in a rather menacing tone. I sent in a few crew members with torches and they returned shaken but without sign of the Captain. I then place guards at the mine’s opening and asked them to tell me the moment Twitch emerged. Days passed with only the occasional wolf howl drifting from out of the mine. A week later Twitch crawled from the mine, covered in coal dust and cobwebs. He asked for a drink and when a crew member brought over a cup of water, Twitch spat it out and called for rum. He clutched something tight and close to his chest, and when asked about it he would hiss and back away. I was able to get him back to his cabin where we got him cleaned up and put to bed. I was able to pry open his hand and discovered it was a song we released last year about this time, but it was strange and different. Who knows how long Twitch will sleep, so I’m going to offer up what he found as an early Halloween treat for you all. Download and enjoy About That Time… the Nightmare Rodeo remix.
