'Tis All Hallows Eve
and these stories that we weave
provide a wondrous reprieve
from the mundane needs

The offered flowers and bones
coax them from faraway homes
eager for mischief and games
all I ask is you wear a mask
and don’t say your name

Halloween comes but once a year
chocolate, candy corn and gum is fun
but some things you best fear
all the ghosts and monsters are ready to play
telling spooky stories, I promised I wouldn’t say

Grab up a femur and beat on a drum
for those that have passed, and those yet to come
the walls between are getting mighty weak
those shadowy whispers are stories starting to leak

Light the candles and lay out the fruit
then follow this tale right down to the root
a pumpkin headed man who appears but once a year
the sight of it leaves me grinning from ear to ear

Feels like it’s about that time of year
shadows steeped in wicked fun and wondrous fear
the nights are full of moonlit eyes and teeth
of all the things that usually hide beneath
